Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

We were here last weekend for dinner. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Cabo Wabo shrimp was out of this world. Chipolte sauce chicken burrito was really tasty too. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat. Service was great too.
(5)Charlie M.
Very good Mexican food at a good price. This is the best Mexican I've had in Steamboat, well worth a visit!
(4)Carlos S.
I order the taco plate (pastor) and all do the presentation was good the dish lack flavor. I was on my way to Qdobas next-door and i wish I would've stick with my first choice
(3)Shane C.
Service terrible.. food very good. Margaritas average...I would recommend probably checking out another place...
(2)Mark D.
This was our first time... The food is pretty good, however the margaritas are horrible! They tasted weird, my wife thought they were trying to poison us. We didn't touch them after our first sip. We put them at the edge of our table, the waiter never asked us why we didn't drink them, hmmmm. I ordered the chicken chipotle fajitas, my wife the chicken tequila lime tacos both we pretty tasty...
(3)Vince N.
Wow what a surprise. We went in after skiing all day because we saw it from the road. They seated us right away. The service was prompt. We had the top shelf Margarita's, they were great. The chips and salsa hit the spot plus we ordered the queso dip, it was fantastic. I had the chipotle enchiladas and it was fantastic. Everyone else was very complimentary of the food. I will definitely be back the next time we are in town!
(5)Tim N.
Not the best I've ever eaten but solid and with good service!
(3)amy m.
the fresh table side guac is outstanding and the margaritas are made with fresh lime and agave. the bartender was outstanding - friendly, knowledgeable and attentive.
(4)Steve T.
The pozole soup (chicken, hominy) was the best I have ever tasted. The guacamole made at the table was very good. Entrees seemed pretty good. Ceviche was disappointing (too soupy, and very tomato-ish) as was the green chile soup (very runny, almost a puree). Service was pleasant but very slow. Seemed understaffed. Probably would try other mexican places next time visiting, but would not have a problem going back either.

We ate there tonight (disclaimer, we eat here 2-3 times per month but are not financially or socially affiliated with the owners, restaurant or staff. ONLY very satisfied customers) with some close friends (who are both originally from Texas) who loved their ahi tacos and a poblano-cactus-pollo dish. The ceviche, salsa/chips, chicken chipotle enchiladas, chicken soft tacos (our daughter's favorite-something she literally drools over), chile chipotle lime (Wife's fav, never orders anything else and she was born and raised in south Texas) are delicious with a cold cerveza Sol and are reasonably priced. Easy parking, nearly never crowded and reservations are not required unless it is spring break or some other holiday filled weekend. Wait staff is always top notch and friendly (unlike some of the other recent views, we've never found any issue over the past 3 years).

I want to temper this review by saying that we went at a busy time when there were two, very large parties being served, and all we had were appetizers. That being said, I really wasn't much impressed with the place. When we first arrived, I liked the smell of the food, and the decor was very attractive. Everything seemed good. But, when we were seated at a table near the window, we noticed a lot of small, dead bugs on the window sill. The rest of the restaurant seemed clean enough, especialy during a busy time, and the wait staff was adequately attentive. We had a coupon we got out of one of the tourist magazine that offered us either $5.00 margaritas, $2.00 off any one appetizer for the table, and one more option I do not remember. We went with the $2.00 off the appetizer, and ordered both the Guacamole made at the table, and the Nachos with Black Beans. We are vegetarian, and we know it is difficult for vegetarians to eat at any Mexican restaurant. This restaurant did have a vegetarian section that included four or five items, and they did offer black beans which we know are almost always vegetarian, just as these were. The two, large parties were due to both a baseball tournament in town, and a Friday night Rodeo. One table was 14 people, and the other was at least 20. Anyway, as a result, our wait, even for appetizers, was a bit long. So, we ended up eating a lot of chips and salsa, and drinking a lot of beverages. That, alone, probably affected our perception of the entire meal. My wife really liked the salsa. It was very different from what I am used to. It had the flavor of chipotle peppers that made it slightly "smokey." The heat was medium, and, if you like the smokey flaovr, it was OK. The chips were less than remarkable. They might do well to upgrade their chips, at least on menu items. The chips served with the chips and salsa were the same as served with both the guacamole, and the nachos. When our food arrived, the presentation was not very good. Our waitress made the guacamole appetizer at our table, and she did a good job of the preparation. It was OK, but, other than the table preparation, not really special. The nachos looked thrown together, and not very appetizing at all. I don't know why I would expect them to be any different, any better, or any more special than any I have had before, and they weren't. I found them to be pretty ordinary, and I blame the chips more than anything. The cheap chips they use really hurt both the presentation, and the overall flavor of the dish. About now, I'm wishing I had ordered something off the menu besides just the appetizers. From my experience, I would probably stay away from the appetizers in the future, and warn off anyone I was with. The other dishes I saw looked good, and people ate them qucikly as if they were tasty. They sure seemed to enjoy their meals more than we enjoyed ours. I know that there is a Cantina in town that we have eaten at before, and really lliked. I will probably go there next time we want Mexican at least until I get the courage to try Fiesta again. And, if I go back to Fiesta, I will be sure to avoid anything that has those chips in it until they do the upgrade.
(3)Maria D.
The service was good, our waiter was really pleasant, and the margaritas and food was good. We had gotten the chimichanga deluxe, mixed fajitas, Mandandgo, strawberry daiquiri, and Sopapilla for dessert. Prices were reasonable but portions are big.
(5)Alana A.
Visiting Steamboat fora family vacation. Checked social media for the best Mexican food in town and decided to try out La Fiesta Grill. I had the chipotle enchiladas, while hubby had a combination with enchilada and a taco. Kids had a chicken burrito and chicken nuggets. Everything was delicious and definitely great flavors. I was pleasantly surprised by the chipotle sauce. Great flavor and just enough kick of spice without burning me up. Servers were kind and attentive. Would definitely come again.
(5)Chris C.
The food was amazing, but the service was beyond slow! Not enough staff.
(4)Julie V.
2 stars because the waitress was friendly. The food however wasn't that great. The salsa was so bland! There wasn't one grain of salt in the salsa. I thought that maybe the salt from the tortilla chips would make up for the salsa's lack of salt but low and behold, the chips didn't have any salt either! There was no salt on the table either....what restaurant doesn't salt their food or provide salt?! I've never been to a Mexican food place where I hated the salsa but at this place I hated the salsa. I ordered the bean burrito and every bite was 98% tortilla! There was maybe a tablespoon of beans in the whole burrito. The rice was hard and stuck together like it had been sitting out for a while. The kitchen is super slow to get your food out so if you are really hungry go somewhere else. The green chile was just ok. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
(2)Ani K.
The food was amazing but a bit $$$. The service was so so but it's worth the visit. The tortilla soup and guacamole is good choice. The portions are pretty big so I think you can share if you don't have that much of a appetite
(5)Marc M.
A Kitchen can "get in the hole," it happens. But avoiding guests is the worst possible solution. Acknowledge the situation, offer a cold app or dessert on the house - something, anything! Food was better than average, less red sauce and yellow cheese more fresh veggies. While reading reviews of this place, it appears the common complaint is excessive wait times. This is an easy fix guys!
(2)Susan W.
My husband and I drove up from Denver Friday meeting family for the weekend in Steamboat Springs and stopped in about 1:30pm and wanted to sit on patio and it was virtually empty except for a bigger party set up at tables in the middle! She tried to sit us a small table close to the parking lot instead of one with a better view and umbrella which we asked to sit at! I ordered a $7 maragarita which tasted more like pineapple juice and wasn't good at all! The food was not very tasty and I love green chile sauce and theirs was more like enchilada sauce with no flavor! We had to ask for more salsa and chips and our server never appeared during our meal to check to see if we needed anything or ask how our food was! Our water glasses sat empty forever and I almost had to go get it myself until she finally showed up with the bill! I don't think she was happy we asked for more water! We always tip between 20-30% but I told my husband no way should we reward someone for basically no service so he did 15%! We would never go there again!
(2)Scott B.
Service was fast! The Guac is amazing, they make it table side. The Blu agave margarita was great! If your caving a good Mexican place you will not be let down! Come hungry the portions are pretty big!
(4)D C J.
I don't know what these "good"review people are eating but I tried this place twice. Like the saying says, "one time shame on you, two times shame on me" horrible food.
(1)Byron B.
My family had lunch here sunday on July 4th weekend and late fiesta exceeded our expectations, as I had been avoiding this place based on the old village inn location. Big mistake. We spend a lot of time in the 'boat and this is the best mexican. Joint we have tried. I wish I had a Mexican place this good near my home. We ordered a barbacoa smothered burrito, chipotle lime chicken, and a kids chicken quesadilla plate. The chips and salsa and refried beans and rice were all properly prepared and nothing too exciting. The barbacoa however was the best I have had anywhere. Super tender and fantastic flavor. The lime chicken was moist and tangy with beautiful presentation. Even the kids quesadilla was great. The tab was reasonable for steamboat - $40 before tip for our meals and a 3 soft drinks. Service was very friendly and they kept our drinks topped off. We were in the restaurant a total of 45 minutes. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you are digging some Mexican grub.
(4)Shawna S.
My husband and I came up for my birthday. We have kind of figured out that if you are not a local to steamboat you will not be treated the greatest. From a town that gets most of its revenue from tourism you would think they could be a little nicer. The food at this restaurant was very good. It could have been warmer. And they didn't know what a coronarita was, which is a Margarita with a carona beer turned over in it. Once they brought our food we never saw our server again. Not for drinks, the bill nothing. A local family came in, ate paid and left in the time that we were there waiting for our food, drinks and the bill. They didn't even look in our direction. We finally added up based on what we remembered what our bill was, paid in cash and left.
(3)David V.
I've been here twice and both times had the mole enchiladas. Seriously, they are really good. Very authentic flavor with the sauce and totally worth trying. Service leaves a little to the imagination but overall I would recommend them to a friend.
(4)Barb J.
Seriously the worst margarita I've ever had. The food was okay. My husband and I split the fiesta nachos. They didn't bring extra plates which most restaurants will do. Customer service okay at best
(3)Michele S.
Traveling here from Texas. Not good mexican food... "Beef" on the nachos is canned chili. My kids cheese enchiladas were made with hard white cheese. The rice taste like the kind you buy in a box. I wasn't satisfied AT ALL. My margarita was not good either. I would never come back here again.
(1)Al P.
Good food. Small portions. Bit over priced, But reasonable for a resort. Maybe a bit to kid friendly. Not a place for date night. I think I'll try some other places in town next visit. I'd return I a group of friends were going.
(4)Paul B.
Good food and clean. Prices are a little high but portions are huge so plan to split if you're not starving. Good service and quiet ambiance. Would definitely go back.
(4)Jeff J.
Fantastic food and super service!!! Great happy hour with good beers on draft.
(5)Karin T.
Great smiles, Cadillac margaritas and both the carne asada and the shrimp cabo wabo are amazing. My other half loves the chicken fajitas. Unlike Joe we have never had an issue with being seated or waited on. We frequent this place often when we are in Steamboat which is about 6 months of the year. Very friendly and attentive. Karin
(4)Alan G.
Consistently very good meals and great Cadillac margs. I used to go to another local Mex restaurant but now this is Home. Alan G.
(4)Gleneda H.
Found an exceptionally good Mexican place in Steamboat! Prices are a little high, but I accept that in Colorado mountain towns, if the food is great. And that's what I got. I had the Baha fish tacos with lime/cilantro rice and black beans. Everything was fabulous! I even loved the chips and salsa so much that I joked with the server that they were so good, I didn't need a whole dinner. I'll go back next time I'm in town.
(5)Melissa R.
Fantastic food and service...only problem they have Pepsi not coke. Will return if I am ever back in the area
(4)Stephan D.
We arrived at 6:30. The restaurant was maybe half full. We waited at the hostess desk with our party of 5 and another party of 2 for more than 10 minutes. Nobody even said hello to use. We finally all left and went down the block to another chain Mexican restaurant that starts with a "Q".
(1)Matthew W.
Holy cow, the food was exceptional! I mean, really delicious, not just your standard tex-mex americanized fare. I had an amazing shrimp dish. Great salsa. The only thing that was not up to par was the mediocare margarita.
(5)Crystal R.
The salsa was extremely bland. The pork green chili was appropriately spicy, but had only pork fat and no pork. Price was right.
(3)Melissa G.
This restaurant is definitely offering something unique to Steamboat - GREAT FOOD. This is hands-down the best REAL Mexican restaurant in Steamboat. After moving here two years ago we had given up on eating Mexican cuisine here in Steamboat but that is no longer true. This rivals the best Mexican cuisine we have experienced anywhere including Mexico. You will definitely forget you are in Steamboat. The flavors are fresh, traditional and very authentic. A needed addition to the restaurant scene. Love it!
(5)Michelle I.
Shockingly yummy chipotle cheese enchiladas! I'm not the first to flock to restaurants in stripmallish areas, but the good reviews & the location to our vacation lodging was encouragement. If I was local I would be going back again!
(4)Chase H.
I love mexican food and this place really impressed me. The chicken fajitas are fantastic. The chicken was cooked to perfection, which few restaurants do. We had enchiladas with tomatillo sauce that was yummy. The chicken enchiladas were really good. The only things I will knock was the mole (not my favorite type of mole, but it was still good) and the guacamole was not bursting with flavor. Still, this place is good.
(5)pinche d.
My condolences go out to the waiter's family and loved ones. He must have passed away during his shift while waiting on our table BECAUSE HE NEVER CAME BACK TO THE TABLE AFTER TAKING OUR DINNER ORDER. This could be the only logical explanation right? PROS: - The food is better then average interior Mexican food and a good chance from bad tex mex. Seafood enchiladas were tasty and they have a kids menu. - There's a bar with a TV there and they were showing a soccer game from the international football league so that we a good change. CONS: Service is bad - We weren't greeted for 10-12 mins after being seated - No second round of drinks could be ordered so I guess this place doesn't need the money. - No one checked in on us after the runners dropped off the food. - No one brought us a check until we asked another waiter for it. The food is pricey. There are some dishes you get what you pay for and other (tacos) where you'll get the worse end of the stick. (3 tacos = $13). Someone mentioned that the place is understaffed ... that's an UNDERstatement. Someone else mentioned the salsa with the chips is bland. Ya .. it is but I don't think a place is going to make a kicka** salsa that you can eat for free and inleiu of ordering an app.
(3)John G.
I loved the chipotle chicken fajita. My wife gave the chile rellano a 7 on the 1..10 scale. Nice dinner on a Monday night before we drive back home. Solid service. We will definitely be back.

My family is here on vacation. I'm so glad we stayed away from downtown--it would have been a crazy wait for a party of six--and I couldn't be more pleased with the meal I just ate. I ordered a slow cooked carnitas chimichanga, my husband got the mahi and shrimp enchiladas--both were delectable. The sauces were superb and we were all very pleased. For a Saturday night, party of six, they sat us in no time flat and we enjoyed a delicious meal. 5-star food. 3.5 star ambiance. I'll come here again!!
(5)Jeanine N.
The worst service ever. Came in and servers standing around lots of tables open. Thought the food would be quick. Waited an hour still no food. They kept saying it would come but it never seemed to arrive. I would have got up and left but my husband refused. I ordered a mojito and they were out of mint. A grocery store is in the same parking lot-really? When food came it was actually pretty good but not very hot.

Good food and clean. Prices are a little high but portions are huge so plan to split if you're not starving. Good service and quiet ambiance. Would definitely go back.

I loved the chipotle chicken fajita. My wife gave the chile rellano a 7 on the 1..10 scale. Nice dinner on a Monday night before we drive back home. Solid service. We will definitely be back.

Karin

Consistently very good meals and great Cadillac margs. I used to go to another local Mex restaurant but now this is Home. Alan G.

Holy cow, the food was exceptional! I mean, really delicious, not just your standard tex-mex americanized fare. I had an amazing shrimp dish. Great salsa. The only thing that was not up to par was the mediocare margarita.

The salsa was extremely bland. The pork green chili was appropriately spicy, but had only pork fat and no pork. Price was right.
